Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data Breakspec collects through breakspec.com and our waitlist, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: we collect what you put in the waitlist form, use it to invite you and tell you about the launch, and never sell it.
Who we are
Breakspec is run by Siddharth Chaudhary, Christine Vong and Georgios Angelakis in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). We are joint controllers of the personal data described here under UK data protection law. For anything privacy-related, email privacy@breakspec.com.
What we collect
When you join the waitlist
- Your email address.
- What you’re building, and any link you choose to share.
- The coding agents and main programming language you use.
- Anything you write in the optional question about bugs you’re worried about.
Please don’t put passwords, API keys, private code or other sensitive information in the form.
When you email us
Your email address, your message, and anything you attach.
When you visit the website
Our hosting provider records standard technical data in server logs, such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, so the site can be delivered and protected from abuse. We don’t use cookies, analytics, advertising pixels or any other tracking on breakspec.com.
How we use it, and our legal basis
UK GDPR requires a legal basis for each way we use personal data. Here is every use:
| What we do | Data used | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Run the waitlist and send your invite | Your email, your answers on the form | Legitimate interests: you asked to join, and we need your details to let you in. |
| Send launch news and product updates | Your email | Consent, which you give when you join. Unsubscribe at any time. |
| Decide who to invite first | Your answers on the form | Legitimate interests: inviting people we can help most. A founder reads every answer; nothing is decided automatically. |
| Reply when you email us | Your email address and message | Legitimate interests: answering you. |
| Keep the website working and secure | Technical data in server logs | Legitimate interests: running a safe, reliable site. |
| Meet legal obligations | Whatever the law requires | Legal obligation. |
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your data or share it with advertisers. We use a few service providers who process it on our behalf and only as we instruct:
- Google (Google Forms and Google Sheets) stores waitlist responses.
- Vercel hosts the website and keeps its server logs.
- Our email providers run our inboxes and send waitlist emails.
We may also share data with professional advisers such as lawyers, or with authorities when the law requires it. If we form a company to run Breakspec, or the business is sold or reorganised, your data will move with it, and this policy will continue to protect it.
International transfers
Some of our providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. When that happens, the transfer is covered by a recognised safeguard, such as the UK–US data bridge or the UK’s approved contract clauses.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist data: until 12 months after Breakspec launches, or sooner if you ask us to delete it. If you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you straight away and keep only your email on a do-not-contact list, so we don’t email you again by mistake.
- Emails you send us: as long as needed to deal with them, and no more than two years.
- Server logs: for the short period our hosting provider keeps them.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the data we hold about you;
- correct anything that’s wrong;
- delete your data;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- send your data to you or someone else in a reusable format.
You can also withdraw your consent to launch emails at any time. Use the unsubscribe link in any email, or tell us.
To use any of these rights, email privacy@breakspec.com. It’s free, and we’ll reply within one month. We may ask you to confirm your identity first.
If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. If you live in the EU, you can complain to your local data protection authority.
Security
Only the three of us can access waitlist data. We keep it in the accounts listed above and protect them with strong passwords. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach puts your data at risk, we’ll tell you and the ICO as the law requires.
Children
Breakspec is for developers and isn’t intended for anyone under 16. If you think a child has given us their details, email privacy@breakspec.com and we’ll delete them.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change significantly affects how we use your data, we’ll email the waitlist before it takes effect.
